GLM-5.2 is kinda a big deal, surprised more people aren't talking about it

ZAI dropped GLM-5.2, fully open-weight (MIT license, no sneaky asterisks). 1M token context, 128k output, built for coding/agent workflows not just chatting. catch: "open weight" ≠ "runs on your laptop." it's 753B params, 1.5TB of weights, still needs ~200GB memory even compressed. so most people are using it hosted (ZAI site/API) either way. what's actually impressive is watching it in agent harnesses like Cursor people building game clones in a handful of prompts, Chrome extensions in under 4 min, whole automations for organizing files/notes. not perfect first try, usually needs a follow-up prompt, but for the price (way cheaper than Opus/GPT-5.5/Gemini) it's not really close.

bigger picture: companies are already shifting workloads to Chinese open models cheaper, more control, less risk if export rules shift again (which already happened once this year). not saying it beats the frontier labs across the board. but for long docs, heavy coding, or agent-heavy tasks where cost adds up, worth testing before defaulting to the expensive stuff out of habit. anyone running this in prod yet? curious how it holds up outside demos.
