Commercial dancer with some background in musical theatre wants to be part of cabaret and burlesque
I’m in Hong Kong rn and there’s maggie choo cabaret show They have 3 white dancers always on the page- surprise I’m not white. I’ve checked those 3 dancers and they all went to university to get a musical theatre/ dance performance degree
Now I don’t have it… can I still get in with commercial dance background? I did some jazz when I was younger but I never did jazz, I’m intermediate at tap. I’ve trained with a commercial dance professional in London and performance is my strongest skill
I have a commercial background and can dance in heels.
I never had singing training long enough but I’m a mezzo soprano of f3-c6 including head voice.
I’m 5’3 and ethnically Chinese.
I did musical theatre when I was in grade 7-11.
I have had some dance gigs. I’ve worked with uk sports clothing company. I danced at some carribean carnivals.
Is that enough? I plan to create a portfolio to show range of my skills performance and singing skills and burlesque (acting and strip tease- again selling point is performance).
What else can I do? I’ll also attend jazz and tap and ballet classes in HK in the meantime I plan to teach basic heels, basic femme / confidence classes focusing on dancing for female gaze (mentoring and workshops and classes) Post my own choreography showcasing theatre jazz, singing Post choreos I’ve learned- commercial jazz tap dancehall Afro-
