Is this normal? Is it likely to get resolved?

I bought a car recently from a used car dealership. A couple of days after I did the paperwork, the dealership informed me that they are still waiting for the title to arrive in the mail and that they can't register the car until the title arrives in the mail. IIRC they said something about the car previously being registered in another state and that this is the reason for the delay.

When I asked friends about this, I heard multiple stories of people buying cars and having to return them because the title never arrived. How likely is this? Also, if this does get resolved, how long is it likely going to take?
