Family Photos

I was just given all of the family photos from my grandparent’s home. There are several banker boxes full. I don’t feel right about just tossing them but I really don’t have the space to keep them forever.

If I scan them, how would I best store them in a way that is digitally archival?

Also, do I send the photos to the people/kids in them? Most range from 1930s - 1990s.
