The plan is to see my Ex this week for the first time since signing the papers in January.
My wife left in September of last year five days after our three year Anniversary. We had been having issues for the better part of a year and she pulled the trigger one morning and since then I have seen her maybe eight or nine times. Mostly when she'd come over the house to prep it for sale.
It was an amicable divorce. No lawyers. We split the sale of the house 50/50. No kids or pets. To be honest, I couldn't believe how easy it was to get divorced when both parties contest nothing.
We got all the way to the signing and for some reason things just deteriorated. I started getting yelled at. I'm guessing it was some guilt weighing on her because I was as cooperative as humanly possible. I was very close to her side of the family as my side has a big history with alcoholism, mental illness, and toxicity. We had the biggest fight of our entire relationship, of which there was very little, after I signed the papers. We had been texting every day up until that point. I decided it was time to fully back off but I still wanted to see my nephews and my in laws occasionally on her side. That happened once.
It was recently my birthday and she reached out. She has been reaching out once every month or so after an initial two month no contact period. I'm on the other side of thing emotionally. I'm setr up in my new place and I'm doing all the things I've wanted to do since before we got together. Seeing movies and hiking and seeing music. I'm a bit of a lone wolf. I liked doing those things by myself so it's been nice getting back to the old me.
However, she was my best friend. I miss her. We were friends in high school 20 years ago and only got into a relationship with each other seven years ago. I think we were what we both needed for each other at the time. I asked her if she wanted to get a drink some time soon and catch up and she had no problem with that. It came off genuine. I don't think she's seeing anybody and neither am I so I'm just hoping we're able to reunite as friends without the baggage of the divorce.
I'm going to learn a lot in this meeting. About myself. About her. My friends are pissed at me for doing it. They were friends with her for as long as I have been but they're pissed off with the way she left me. Just up and peaced out. No attempt at therapy or working on it past a few months in the summer. She knew what she wanted.
Anybody else have a successful post divorce catch up session six months down the line? Am I sabotaging all the progress I've made? I feel so comfortable in my situation. I miss her and my nephews and in laws but I generally understand and see why our relationship didn't work out so I'm not looking to reconcile. Shit, I don't even have a sexual desire that's outside of normal. Our sex life wasn't the most active the last year.
Anyway, that's my vent. I needed to write this all out. Thoughts are appreciated. Good or bad. This sub has been a big help in getting me to where I am now so I also want to thank you all for being so supportive. I hope next week brings me peace and maybe a little glimmer of hope that I can see her as an equal every once in a while. Maybe see my nephews too. We'll see.
