College found me guilty of academic dishonesty without properly letting me defend myself

No advice wanted (Vent)

6 months ago, I posted about a professor accusing me of cheating during an online exam on the very last day before grades were posted. Picking my nails while on a lockdown browser and glancing down at my hands could’ve very well just cost me my bachelors degree, at least for the time being.

After getting notified of the accusation, I had to speak to both my advisor and the dean of students about it. After explaining my situation, both agreed that the professor seemed quite baseless in her accusation. The dean then gave me two options- I could admit guilt and hope for the smallest punishment possible, or I could go to a ‘trial’ in front of a jury of student body and faculty. Because of my anxiety, I knew this would be difficult, but I knew I wanted to at least explain myself.

Leading up to the trial, I gathered as much evidence as possible. Notes from my therapist regarding my anxiety and nail picking habits, support from other staff I’d had before, everything I could. My therapist was going to be my key support in the meeting with me, as I was allowed one. However, two days before the meeting, I received an email that my therapist was no longer allowed in the meeting with me, I had to use my academic advisor as my support, and eve if the jury believed the professor 51% to my 49%, I’d still be found guilty.

Long story short, the jury’s ruling was that I could have been cheating and that there was no concrete evidence that I was picking my nails because my hands weren’t shown on screen, and they put me on academic probation. My financial aid was also stripped from me. It all just seems like a load of bs because they couldn’t prove that I was cheating either (which I wasn’t, I was truly just anxious).

I took the spring semester off, but now my summer semester has started and the financial aid office is hounding me about paying for both of them. I just don’t know how I’m going to pay for these classes, and I’m finding a lack of motivation in college now because it feels like I’m constantly being watched :(
I’m just really upset about it still, especially because when I was found guilty the professor was really smug and failed me on the class immediately as well, tanking my GPA. I feel like I got snubbed here, but now I know to notify every professor who uses lockdown of my situation I guess.
