Are these damaged tablets supposed to be completely blank?

I backtracked to the earliest blank damaged tablet I could find (I am very deep into the game), and also blacked out the HUD to avoid any unnecessary spoilers.

As you can see, I am playing the classic 2006 / GR3 Project version of the game. Most damaged tablets that I have come across still have text, just with many blank spots. But so far around 12 damaged tablets have been completely blank, with no text whatsoever.

Is that normal? I cannot get a clear answer from Google.
