What is everyone’s opinion on discernment?

I’ve been wondering what everyone’s thoughts are on this, across different denominations, theological traditions, and religious philosophies.
I tend to believe that the Holy Spirit primarily works through conviction and practical reasoning. However, sometimes I wonder if I lean too far in that direction and end up minimizing the spiritual aspect of the Christian life.
What are your thoughts? How do you see the Holy Spirit working in a believer’s life, especially when it comes to guidance and decision-making?
