Removing permanent color

Hey yall, i need some professional advice, regarding a very specific brand of box dye LOL! Ion (i know im shaking my head too) brand permanent red color (i KNOW IM SORRY). I’ve only tried to lift the color once, using Paul Mitchell super sync lightener, and it didn’t do anything except make the dull red turn fire red. It’s about a level 5 right now, i believe the exact shades used were 6vr and 5vv. I’d love to lift to a level 7 or 8 to be able to do calico and have the blond streaks, but it seems the red banding is an issue so if anyone has any advice on how to remove this permanent color I’d appreciate !
