Any recommendations for non-cozy small-scale Fantasy stories
Are there any non-cozy fantasy books you would recommend that have a limited scale - both when it comes to the stakes (things can be very serious for the protagonist and the people around them, but matter little to the world at large) - and the location (limited to a small region or single city)?
Some examples would be:
The Cloven Viscount - by Italo Calvino
The Privilege of the Sword - by Ellen Kushner
Tamsin - by Peter S. Beagle
The Princess Bride - by William Goldman
Going Postal - by Terry Pratchett
A lot of cozy literature obviously has this kind of small-scale, but ever since the popularity of that particular sub-genre exploded it's fairly easy to find recommendations for those kinds of books - so I am specifically looking for non-cozy works.
