I just wanted what my grandparents had.
It’s gotten so bad out there nowadays. Dating is such a hellscape now, especially for short, average men like me. I get no matches on apps, no girl has ever been interested in me. I missed out on much of the milestones I was supposed to hit by now. Never got to have my first held hand, first kiss, losing my virginity, having a date to the prom. I missed out of all of that.
I always thought it would get better. As you get older, people get more mature, and eventually, someone would want me. But from what I’ve seen, it doesn’t seem to get better anymore.
It just feels like there’s no place for men like me anymore. I’m average looking, I’ll likely be average earning, and I’m short, very short for a man. It just seems women have no reason to take men like me anymore unfortunately. They are completely independent and have tons of options now, which is a really good thing for them and the economy, but, unfortunately, it seems to rendered men like me useless and unneeded. Women’s independence and flourishing, as good as it is overall, took away men’s place and way they were found useful and didn’t offer any way to replace it.
Ultimately, I accepted a long time ago that I’d never be the guy who gets tons of attention and gets to sleep with a bunch of hot women. I just wanted what the men of the past had. Look at the relationship between our grandmothers and grandfathers, many of those weren’t great deep love and fireworks all the time. But, it was two people who got together, started a family together, and over decades of shared life, grew to really care for one another.
That’s all I wanted. It didn’t need to be deep love or deep desire or super romantic or anything. I just wanted one woman to live with, to build a family with, to come home to every night. Have one person that I knew completely and she knew me, and even if it wasn’t perfect, we both cared deeply for each other and would miss the other deeply if they were gone.
But, unfortunately, I guess that’s out of reach for men like me nowadays…
