Help me understand buyback.

I was in the save forbearance, and had 83 payments going in for PSLF. I now need to select a new plan, but when can I apply for the buyback?

By my math, if I count the 25 months in forbearance and they could count toward my payment in buyback, I have 12 payments left. I work for a nonprofit and I’m not making a lot of money and my payment almost doubled with the new IDR plan. I’m selecting that in August to delay as long as possible as I’ve seen Mohela certify a plan and put people in repayment in the next week and I want to delay as long as possible. But, I have great credit and tbh I could get a personal loan to get outta this mess and have a much lower payment at a low interest rate. Paying off my loans isn’t an option but I want the freedom to move jobs and to get rid of these loans.

should I just apply now, seeing that some people have over a year pending on their buyback application? I’ve seen some threads that people are denied if they apply too soon with not enough payments or, they get accepted (as you only get 90 days to buy back) and it’s unclear where the sweet spot to apply is. There is also talk about this program and it isn’t guaranteed to stick around. Any intel helps, as I can’t get a human n the phone and the rules are vague at best on student aid and nonexistent with Mohela. Thanks hive mind
