Researching a coordination app for friend groups before building more - the category's a graveyard, tell me why I'll fail too.
I'm looking into the "help friend groups actually make plans" space. The bet: the hard part of adult social life isn't wanting to see people, it's the dead zone between "we should hang out" and a committed plan with a real date. That gap is where everything dies.
What makes me nervous is this category is littered with corpses - Down to Lunch had millions of users and still died, the restaurant-swipe apps nailed discovery but never solved commitment. So before I build more I want to understand the failure pattern, not just the opportunity.
If you've built social or coordination stuff - what actually killed it? Was the pain just not sharp enough to change people's habits? Was it the cold-start problem, where one person shows up and their friends aren't there so it feels dead? Is it retention - people try it once, make one plan, and never come back? Or something else
any advice would be greatly appreciated :)
