Comminuted intra articular displaced fracture of distal radius. No surgery offered

Fracture seemed fine on first X rays. A couple of weeks later in fracture clinic the X-ray showed displacement in the joint. CT taken, called the next day to be told that the bone was in several pieces, at least three plates would be needed and as already two weeks in the area would already be 'gummed up'. No guarantee of a better outcome with surgery than without so not offered it and told that future issues would have to be dealt with in the future.

Anyone else have similar experience? Reading up on it I'm going to get early arthritis and no solutions post fact are good solutions.
