help! how do i evict a villager for a new one?

hi all!!! i got the hello kitty amiibo cards and have been summoning the characters to my island but when i try to get them to stay, they’re like I CaNt yET or whatever. it doesn’t even give me option to evict a villager to replace with them. any advice or guidance?
