Applying for Schengen Visa from the US with an expired visa stamp but valid i797 and an ongoing confirmed ticket to my home country

Hey everyone, looking for folks with a similar experience. I’m applying for a Schengen visa with an expired visa stamp but valid i797. I’m gonna be flying out of europe to my home country for stamping my H1B. The VFS website clearly asks for an unexpired visa stamp valid for 3 months after my departure from Europe. Can I show my confirmed ticket to my home country and apply for a schengen visa? Has anyone successfully received a Schengen visa with an expired stamp?
