Lynx File Content Search
I’ve been frustrated watching coding agents repeatedly scan the same folders over and over, burning tokens just to answer simple questions.
So I built a VS Code extension to solve that.
Lynx File Content Search

The idea is simple:
Build a completely local index of the folders you choose.
Search file names, paths, and file contents almost instantly.
Generate AGENTS.md / CLAUDE.md / GEMINI.md plus ready-to-run query tools so Claude Code, Codex, and Gemini CLI can query your indexed data instead of brute-force reading your entire project every session. (Visual Studio Marketplace)
A few design principles I cared about:
BYOM (Bring Your Own Model) — use Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or whatever comes next.
CYOD (Connect Your Own Data) — your files stay on your machine.
No cloud service.
No telemetry.
No API keys.
No subscription.
No uploaded source code.
Under the hood it currently uses SQLite + FTS5, with a pluggable search architecture (there’s also an experimental Tantivy backend). It can index code, Markdown, JSON, CSV, and—with optional document extraction—PDFs and Office documents as well. (Visual Studio Marketplace)
My goal isn’t to build another AI assistant.
It’s to make existing coding agents much more efficient by giving them a fast local knowledge layer instead of making them rediscover your filesystem every conversation.
I’d genuinely love feedback from people working with:
Claude Code
Codex
Gemini CLI
Cursor
Large monorepos
Documentation-heavy projects
What features would make this genuinely useful for your workflow?
Thanks for checking it out!
