A tragedy of a love that never began. Somewhere between hope and acceptance. [True]

Dear Aurora,

There is a strange kind of grief in loving someone who was never yours to lose.

For six years, I've carried something inside me that I've never had the courage—or perhaps the right—to place in your hands. Not because I was waiting for the perfect moment, but because I never truly believed there would be one.

The truth is simple.

I've loved you for six years.

Not loudly. Not selfishly. Not with the expectation that one day you would wake up and suddenly see me the way I see you. I never built castles out of impossible hopes. I never convinced myself that if I waited long enough, if I became better, kinder, stronger, funnier, that you would eventually choose me.

Because I don't think you ever would.

And somehow... I've loved you anyway.

I never pursued you because you deserved to live your life without carrying the weight of feelings you never asked for. At one point, you were with someone I considered a friend, and whatever he became afterward—however toxic, manipulative, or destructive he proved to be—that didn't erase the respect I had for you or the boundaries I refused to cross.

Even after everything fell apart, I stayed silent.

Not because I didn't feel enough.

Because I felt too much.

Enough to know that love isn't entitlement.

Enough to know that wanting someone doesn't mean they should belong to you.

Enough to understand that sometimes the greatest act of love is allowing someone to exist freely, even if that freedom never leads them back to you.

Still...

You've never really left me.

You appear in my dreams more often than I care to admit. Sometimes they're nothing extraordinary. We're just talking. Laughing. Existing beside one another. Those dreams hurt the most because they feel so ordinary, as though my heart isn't longing for some impossible fairytale.

It's longing for a life that could have been painfully simple.

And then I wake up.

I've tried to move on. I really have.

I've met other people. I've searched for connections that I hoped would finally convince my heart to loosen its grip. But somewhere, buried beneath every first impression, I find myself looking for you.

Your kindness.

Your warmth.

The way your laughter makes a room feel lighter.

The comfort of simply being around you.

I don't do it intentionally.

In fact, I hate that I do.

Because no one deserves to be measured against someone they'll never know they're competing with.

And yet every road I take somehow circles back to you.

Sometimes I wonder if that's because I truly love you...

Or because I've spent so long loving the idea of you that I've forgotten where one ends and the other begins.

Maybe I've romanticized what could never exist.

Maybe I've created someone in my heart who doesn't perfectly match the woman standing in front of me.

I don't know.

I ask myself that question often because I don't want my love to be built on illusion.

I want it to be honest.

Even if honesty hurts.

I've listened when you've talked about the people you've been attracted to. I've paid attention without meaning to. And every time, I've quietly realized something I don't think I've ever admitted out loud.

I don't fit.

Not really.

Especially not physically.

I'd like to believe I'd be good for you. I'd like to think I'd love you with patience, loyalty, and a kind of gentleness this world doesn't always offer. I'd like to think I'd spend every day choosing you without hesitation.

But wanting to be enough doesn't make you enough for someone else.

And I don't blame you for that.

You never promised me anything.

You never led me on.

You never asked me to wait.

This has always been my heart carrying a weight it chose for itself.

The hardest part isn't that you haven't chosen me.

It's accepting that you probably never will.

There is a quiet finality to that realization.

Not dramatic.

Not angry.

Just... painfully human.

Because some people become home to us while we remain only visitors in their lives.

And maybe that's all I was ever meant to be.

I don't write this because I expect it to change your mind.

I don't believe words are powerful enough to create feelings where none exist.

Love doesn't work that way.

This isn't a plea.

It isn't a final attempt.

It isn't me hoping that after reading this you'll suddenly see me differently.

I think, deep down, I've already accepted that you won't.

This is simply the truth I've carried for six years.

I love you.

I have loved you through different seasons of my life, through different versions of myself, through every attempt I've made to convince my heart to move on.

And somehow...

It always wandered back to you.

Maybe one day it won't.

Maybe one day your name won't be the first one my heart whispers when it imagines peace.

Maybe one day someone else will make me understand why none of the others were ever meant to stay.

I hope that's true.

Because I don't want to spend forever loving someone who was never meant to love me back.

But if that day never comes...

Then I hope you know that somewhere in this world, there was someone who saw you—not as an achievement, not as a prize, not as someone to possess—but simply as a person worth loving with everything he had.

Even if that love was never returned.

Even if it was never meant to be.

You'll probably never know the life I've imagined in passing, the conversations that only existed in my head, the futures I quietly folded away because they were never mine to have.

That's okay.

Some stories aren't tragedies because they end.

Some are tragedies because they never had the chance to begin.

Ours, I think, is one of them.

So this is my confession.

Not in the hope that you'll choose me.

But in acceptance that you likely never will.

And despite that...

A part of me will always love you.

Quietly.

From a distance.

Without expectation.

Until time, or fate, or whatever mercy exists in this world finally teaches my heart how to let you go.

With all the love I never asked you to return,

Always,
Me
