Dashboards tell you what happened. Are AI agents going to decide what happens next?
For years, dashboards have been the final output of most data work.
Build the pipeline, clean the data, create the report, then wait for someone to notice a trend, anomaly, or drop in performance.
But that workflow is starting to feel slow.
The next shift seems to be agentic analytics, where AI agents don’t just show insights, but continuously monitor data, explain what changed, recommend next steps, and in some cases trigger actions.
Example: instead of waiting for someone to open a conversion dashboard, an agent could spot a drop, segment it by device or region, connect it to a recent change, and suggest what to check first.
That sounds useful, but also risky if the data quality, audit trail, and governance layer are weak.
Imo the big question is not “will dashboards disappear?”
It’s more like: what decisions should agents be allowed to make, and where should humans stay in the loop?
We wrote a deeper breakdown on this shift and the risks around it.

Curious how others see this. Are agentic analytics tools actually useful yet, or are we still early?
