Has a band ever fallen off more than Modest mouse?

It’s not the worst insult in the world because you have to have been really good at one point to ever “fall off.”

I’ve been revisiting their old stuff after not listening for a while and man those early albums really hold up. How did they get so bad? How did they go from one of the best bands of all time to writing songs like Lampshades on fire? I haven’t even heard their newest stuff but I can only imagine how bad if is.

Any other bands/artists that have had a drop off in quality to such a degree?
