You could look at the top 3 Stages as representing what Imu said in recent chapters.

"When power so lusted after is easily gained... Corruption!! Choosing servitude out of self-interest... Covenants!! And the envy that seeks to achieve one's goals...The Power of Omen!! These form the trinity... of what we call Domination!!!"

Corruption=Acceptance

Acceptance's fruit is pretty broken because it allows for him to grow somewhat exponentially. The fact is that he can kill people and get stronger and then kill stronger people and get stronger at a faster rate. And the best thing for him is that he can do this all in secret. I think that this also ruined his life in a way.

If he had any sanctity for human life, that was wrung out of him when he worked for Ragnar IV. And so it's no wonder he felt bold enough to try and get his sister in law to run away with him, but then lose any restraint and kill her.

If he had that restraint, he probably would have just eaten his brother and figured things out then. But his lifestyle removed any restraint he had. I would even guess that, given the most recent chapter, that this is what unlocked his conqueror's haki. So that's another layer of power he got.

Covenant=Clementine

Clementine had nothing left. Not even her degree was worth anything, because the world government would have burnt all those books. So the only way she can keep living is to subordinate herself to the most powerful force around in a chaotic, nonsensical world.

Power of Omen=Reed

Reed joined basically on a whim. And it wasn't really out of desperation. In another timeline, he could have eaten his fruit, tracked down Acceptance, and killed him when he was sleeping. Then, he could have killed a few pirates, pin the blame on them, and then tell Ragnar that he would subordinate himself to them. Reed's main problem is that he just wants power for the sake of it.

The guy is just curious and wants to extend that curiosity as far as it will go. If he had ambition to actually do something, I don't think he would just start false flags like he did in his hometown or that plague in Bloom Court. The power of omen is implied to be the mass where Devil fruits originate. November is basically an infinite pit of greed and empty ambition.
