Wellbeing subsidy reviews question

USA

I used my entire wellbeing subsidy for physical therapy and dry needling, from February through May. I honestly didn’t even think twice…it was to treat my back which is messed up from sitting in a chair for 10 hrs per day working. To me, it made total sense and was an obvious “physical wellbeing” expense. I get why it’s not…now especially after reviewing the other ineligible wellbeing expenses. They’re all medical-related things that could qualify under HSA.

The question I have is…why do they not review wellbeing subsidy expenses as they’re submitted? Why do they wait until AFTER the fiscal year to review them. I’ve only gotten two emails about the rejections, and the first one arrived in time for me to submit other expenses instead. The second just came the other day, so it’s too late to find an eligible expense to replace it with. And as this month continues, they’ll all get rejected and I’ll lose my entire subside AND owe $1,000 that I can’t use my HSA for because I don’t have the receipts anymore.

Does anyone know the expense review schedule? Are they always only reviewed after the close of the fiscal year? If they were reviewed in a timely manner, I could have used the full or most of the subsidy on something else.
