we brought the digital-only world upon ourselves.
playstation is obviously following a consumer trend shift by straying away from physical games and only focusing on digital. in my eyes, majority of the players purchase games digitally for the convenience (what other reasons are there, really?). i don't know many people rushing out to a store to buy a game that also has an option to be downloaded right this second via the PS Store (or even Xbox). besides, i'm sure a lot of the people that comment in here don't even have driving privileges so what are they gonna do? it has been going this direction for years and playstation's backend analytics obviously show this. anyone who says they don't own one digital game in their PS library is likely a liar (although i'm sure there are a few out there - there always are!)
so in my opinion, we did this to ourselves - living in a world full of digital convenience (PS Store, Amazon, Door Dash, Spotify) and biting the bait as hard as we have been. can't be that surprised, let's be real.
** i am not defending a shift to strictly digital media - just calling it as i see it. i want a GTA6 Collectors Edition more than anyone. and IF we do get that somehow, someway, someday... it better be loaded with physical collectibles.
