Looking for more movies like; ”Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles”, ”Heart of Glass” and ”2001 a space odyssey”.
I’m looking for atmospheric movies, that are all about “show, don’t tell”. You should get the sense of a clear vision behind the film but it’s still enigmatic in some sense and up to the audience to connect, feel and ponder the messages.
They should be “meditative” and “slow paced”. Visually interesting.
The story should be mainly understood (felt within, perhaps subconsciously) from the visuals and the sound design/music. The dialogue can further the point, but shouldn’t more or less completely explain “the theme/thesis of” the film.
For instance I enjoyed most of Solaris(1972) but imo Tarkovsky felt the need to spell things out (his thesis and motivations for the movie) through dialogue within the movie instead of trusting the audience to figure things out on their own. So it’s not a film that will linger in me, the same way that the others I’ve mentioned will.
The example movies are very different from each other in tone etc, but I think they share similarities in how they use the medium of film to make their audience experience things and feel things in a way that goes beyond just an intellectual understanding.
