Possible TN
Hey I’m really just confused about the pain I’m experiencing rn. It started two weeks ago. I had a toothache. It started out as dull tense pain then it developed throbbing. I already had a root canal a couple months ago around the same place I experienced the pain. I thought either the tooth behind it was causing the pain or my root canal had failed. I went into my dentist. She checked everything out. My teeth passed the endontric tests. She said there was no cavities and my root canal looked fine still.
She said there was inflammation under the root of my teeth that was pressing on the nerve causing me pain. She prescribed me a medrol. When I started looking up about toothaches caused by nerve pain, I learned about Trigeminal Neuralgia. I heard a lot of people went through similar things that lead to their diagnosis. I hoped the steroid pack was going to fix my problem. I got better for a little bit/ no pain, but occasionally would have a shock of pain. As I tapered off, the pain has started to come back. It’s a dull pressure, it feels like ive been punched in the jaw. Or my teeth are being squeezed from the inside. I’m also now experiencing an ache in my temple. Occasionally, it feels like the pain is traveling from my temple down to the bottom back of my jaw.
I finished my medrol pack now, but the pain came back. It hurts to eat again. I don’t know what to do. I feel lost. I am scared that I actually have TN and my whole life is about to change. I keep hoping and praying (to the goddesses lol) that it just goes away, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen. I’m a 24 y/o AFAB genderqueer. I know that the research said it’s rare for young people, but this subreddit is showing me it isn’t as rare as they say.
Should I go back to the dentist or just go straight to the neurologist?

Also if it was possibly caused by the first root canal, would I start experiencing pain months after? I have slight reason to believe he could have been rough on me on purpose. When he first did the temporary filling, he stood up and held his crotch against my face the whole time. I could literally feel his d!k touching my face. It made me super uncomfortable, but I couldn’t say anything about it because I had so much stuff in my mouth, I couldn’t speak. I already paid and was on a payment plan, so I felt like I still had to go through with it. I went back for him to finish the root canal, I told him that he had made me super uncomfortable by doing that and to please not do that again. He didn’t apologize to me. He just scoffed at me and told me he would be sitting down this time. It felt like he was super rough. I remember during the root canal , I had to get him to numb me several times because I could still feel it. The pain went away with the root canal, but now im feeling pain again in the same place. I got the root canal in March this year.
