How to actually become a Warlock?

Like yes. You sign a contract or make a pact with someone really powerful but. How do you find that being?

Do you just go into the Woods until you find a Mushroom Circle?

Or do you scream into the World I want to sell my soul for magical powers. And then a Fiend pops up behind you.
