Is it normal for your second love to feel different from your first?
tldr: is it normally to know/feel like you would be okay without your partner and be able to love again if you had to?
I (25F) have been dating my boyfriend (27M) for 9 months (we’ve known eachother for a bit over a year). I love him, but recently I have become very in my head about the relationship because I am not sure I “love him enough.”
My last relationship ended about 5 years ago. We had dated for 3 years starting in high school. The breakup was earth shattering for me. For context at the time of the relationship, I hadn’t really fathomed or believed in the possibility of breaking up. I couldn’t imagine living without my boyfriend at the time or loving anyone else. Then he broke up with me and I was crushed, I genuinely did not know how to go on and how to keep living. It took a lot of time and therapy to rebuild myself and stand on my own.
My current boyfriend is my first proper relationship since the break up. I do believe I love him, but I do not feel it in the same “i can’t live without him way.” It feels more like, “I love him, but I know if it doesn’t work out I will be okay and I will be able to love again because I’ve done it before.” I am struggling because I do not know if this is a normal switch from young, first love to a more mature stable love, or a sign that I’m not that into my current boyfriend.
Has anyone felt the same way as the way in which they feel love changes with experience?
