Anyone else just... doesn't know how much EMI they're already carrying until the month ends?
Been thinking about this a lot lately. I have a decent salary, a couple of cards, maybe 2-3 EMIs running at any given time (phone, some appliance, one random "0% EMI" thing I regretted later) — and every single time a new purchase comes up, I have zero clue if I should just pay cash, put it on EMI, or honestly just... not buy it.
Like there's no single place that tells me "hey your total EMI load right now is X, adding this will push it to Y, and here's what that actually costs you after interest/processing fees vs. just saving up for 6 weeks." I end up doing mental gymnastics or a half-baked Excel sheet, and 90% of the time I just wing it and regret it in hindsight.
Curious if this is just a me-problem or if others feel this too:
- Do you actually track your combined EMI/BNPL load across cards + apps, or is it scattered across 3-4 apps in your head?
- When a "should I buy this" moment hits, what do you currently do — gut feeling, a calculator, ask a friend, nothing?
- Would you actually want something that tells you honestly whether to EMI/wait/skip, even if the honest answer is "don't buy it"? Or does that sound annoying/preachy?
Not trying to sell anything here, genuinely trying to figure out if this is a real pain point or just my own bad money habits talking. If anyone's dealt with this and wants to nerd out about it, happy to chat more in DMs — trying to gather a few honest perspectives before I go down a rabbit hole building something around this.
