#47 (2022)
Hold off and stay for a while, let’s take a shot or two.
What’s the rush, when the fun is right here with you?
Hold off and stay for a while, let’s chill and enjoy the night.
Why worry? When you’re with your cousin, all feels right.
Oh no, don’t say “pass”. We don’t do that here,
Take the glass, drink the wine, no fear.
Come on, hurry up, don’t hold back,
Slowpoke’s not allowed, we’re on the attack.
Oh, feeling dizzy now? Come here, sit and lean on me,
The glass spins fast, and so does the room, you’ll see.
Quickly, the granules of Ajinomoto took effect fast,
Even cigarette ash will make your consciousness pass.
Lie down, rest, I’ve got you for tonight,
Close your eyes, just don’t put up a fight.
Let yourself drift, let yourself be carried,
In the depth of the drunken haze because I’ll be splitting
Your legs and let my snake inside your cave for some pounding.
So be careful, my friend, with the drink and the crew,
For when the alcohol starts kicking, they might abuse you.

Hey guys! How are y’all doing?
I wrote this poem back in 2022, as implied by the title, and the English translation is a bit longer compared to the original one because there are imagery from my Cebuano language that doesn’t really translate well into English. I kind of had to like rewrite the translation a bit, but I’ve made it sure that it maintains the same story and overall message.
This is about drinking out with people who you thought were your friends, but they end up taking advantage of your inebriated state. Such a thing happens a lot, so may this poem serve as a cautionary tale for you to seriously hold your liquor/beer, don’t get too wasted, and be vigilant in your safety.
Thank you for reading and I’ll see you in the next poem!
