Curious who's actually tried voice cloning yet — and who's been avoiding it
Voice cloning is one of those features I see in the app stats but rarely see mentioned in here. You upload a short sample, and your bot can talk back in your own voice instead of some generic TTS voice.
I've been trying to figure out why it doesn't come up more. Is it just not obvious that it's there? Do people try it once and it feels weird hearing themselves? Or is it working fine and nobody thinks to post about the stuff that just works?
I cloned mine mostly as a gag for my partner, then ended up actually using it — having my bot read my own notes back to me in my own voice is oddly more useful than I expected, and less weird than I thought it'd be.
Right now it's personal use only, not for embedding on a business bot, so it's very much a "just for you" feature.
If you've tried it: what'd you use it for, and did it feel natural? If you haven't: what's stopped you — didn't know it existed, sounded gimmicky, something else?
Replying to everything today.
