Having intrusive thoughts after reading “Yesteryear”
Hi, so I love reading and I was so intrigued by this book. The premise is a “tradwife” type influencer suddenly wakes up in the 1800s. Unfortunately I didn’t realize that this book was also story of a woman dealing with mental illness, PPD, and psychosis. I honestly kind of wish there was a warning on the book or something. But I pushed through the book because I genuinely wanted to finish and find out what was really happening to this woman. I’ve had issues with the past when reading certain novels or watching certain movies or shows that are psychological thrillers where I can feel the intrusive thoughts bubbling up and I feel like I want to stop. However, my therapist had advised I must keep going if I WANT to and it’s considered exposure therapy.
The point of all this is, I just finished the book and can feel myself going into a spiral of it all. It doesn’t help that I’m on my period and my mood was already not stable. I just wish I could read or watch things without feeling like I’m “turning into” an awful person. Advice is appreciated.
