What good does an endoscopy do?

Testing / Test Results

I was diagnosed with gastritis by GI doc and prescribed a PPI (no longer taking it due to dizziness and blurred vision symptoms but feel better without it anyway) and only have a mild symptom of the dull/gnawing pain in upper left abdomen under rib, but am managing that with a strict ulcer/gastritis-safe diet, hydration and rest to try and heal it myself. My doc also scheduled an endoscopy, but I’m considering forgoing it due to cost and instead using that money to begin working with a functional nutritionist who specializes in healing the gut.

My question is, if I’m already diagnosed, my symptom is mild, I’m identifying my triggers, not able to take a PPI, and willing and able to stick to a strict diet to heal… what good is the endoscopy?

I’ve been following this thread for months and it seems like 9.5 times out of 10 when someone reports having an endoscopy, it only confirms their gastritis diagnosis. I can only think of one recent post where the endoscopy revealed their stomach was bleeding onto their abdominal cavity or something like that, but their symptoms were so much worse than mine…

If anyone reading this had an experience where they were so happy they got the endoscopy because it revealed something different or worse than their original gastritis diagnosis, please share!
