husky and infant
Hi all, happy dog dad of a three and a half year old female husky. My husky is my baby. She's a wonderful dog, happy and healthy.
My wife and I are thinking about getting pregnant soon. One of the reasons we got a husky was because they have a reputation for being good with kids. While that's certainly true, in my anxious googling I've discovered a disturbing phenomenon of huskies "crib snatching" or attacking infants, usually when they are asleep.
My girl definitely has a high prey drive. Squirrels, birds, even some small dogs will cause her wolf brain to activate.
Now I know that in the media, 'if it bleeds, it leads', and these things are a statistical anomoly, (everyone is terrified of dying in a terror attack but we should be worried about heart disease and car crashes). But this does seem like a real concern. I know the basics. Training, boundaries, supervision. But now I'm freaking out. I love my husky, and I cannot bear the thought of my husky hurting my baby.
