I finally understand why adults go quiet after work

Some days I don’t even take my shoes off when I get home. I just stand there with my keys in my hand, not sad, not angry, just switching from one version of myself to another. I used to think being tired meant needing sleep. Now I think it means needing a minute where nobody needs you.
