Getting HA's Friday - Mixing Sound Question
Hello all,
I'm 60 and the VA recently prescribed hearing aids for me. My understanding is that hearing in my left ear dropped into the threshold at 3khz for getting HAs.
I know that I'll be getting Phonaks, but I'm not sure of the exact model.
I'm the "sound guy" at church so on the one hand, I want to make sure that I'm hearing reality rather than mixing to my hearing loss. On the other hand, I don't want my HAs to interfere.
Is it reasonable to ask my audiologist to provide a setting for a flat response except compensated for my hearing loss? The obvious goal would be to hear music exactly (or as close as possible) like someone with perfect hearing would.
The only time I actually notice that my hearing has changed is in heavy background noise situations, so I'll also ask for a "restaurant" setting.
I do also have mild tinnitus if that matters. I don't usually notice it but it is always there. I'm hearing it very clearly now because I thought about it, but 5 minutes ago I was not.
Also, should I plan to wear the 2 day old HAs on Sunday morning or should I acclimate to them first?
Thanks!
