Does MEXT combine M1 and M2 transcripts for GPA calculation when applying for a PhD?
Hi everyone, I am currently an international student from Madagascar (2-year Master's degree). I am preparing my application for a PhD program through the MEXT Scholarship (University Recommendation). I have a question regarding how the guideline "average grade points of the course currently enrolled in" is applied to Master's students:
-
Does the MEXT screening committee calculate the GPA by combining BOTH my M1 (1st year) and M2 (2nd year) transcripts since they belong to the same Master's course?
-
Or do they only calculate it based on the most recent academic year (M2 transcripts only)? In my case, my M1 grades are average, but my M2 grades are much higher.
If they combine both M1 and M2 using the 4-level MEXT scale, my cumulative GPA is around 2.43/3.0. If they only look at M2, it jumps to 2.83/3.0.
Has anyone with a similar 2-year Master's degree background gone through the screening? How did the university/MEXT calculate your final GPA on your application form?
Thank you so much for your help!ππ»
