Is a Paleontology degree worth it?
Hi I'm a recent undecided undergraduate. My biggest interests are the sciences, (well its humanities but those don't pay well) mainly astrology and animal sciences. I had chosen Astrophysics as my major but after much research I see the job market for that degree is pretty much dead due to budget cuts and competition.
On the other hand it seems Geology is one of a couple of science degrees that is well paid (for the most part) and has good job prospects which landed me on a Paleontology; a mix of geology (safe degree?) and animal sciences (passion). This is my question:
Is Paleontology a good major to go into? In the event that you can't find a job in your field are you able to secure other well paying (or at least above average?) jobs with your Geology background? What jobs can you secure with a Paleontology degree?
I've heard that some Astrophysicists also study some Geology due to planetary research, but would classes/credits/minor in Geology as an Astro major be enough to secure jobs in Geology?
Info: I am [soon to be] 31, USA based [FL], bilingual, and I'm willing to move anywhere for the sake of jobs. I'm also way too queasy to go into Medicine unfortunately, aside from maybe Pharmacy.
TL;DR: Is Paleontology a safe major to go into even in the event that you can't find jobs in your field due to your Geology background?
Thank you so much to any who take the time to read and/or answer, your input is very much appreciated.
