Do I have to have sex in order to start a romantic relationship? Never had a partner but go on dates, is it because I’m not trying to have sex?

I’m 22 years old, and I haven’t been “successful” with woman in the traditional sense. I’ve never had an issue going on dates, a lot actually go on multiple dates, but it always ends with her saying she loves my personality and tries to just be friends. I’m a little demisexual and honestly don’t like the thought of hooking up without the emotional connection of dating for a while. Am I just ruining my chances by not trying to sleep with someone. Maybe it’s because I’ve never slept with anyone but who knows.
