Saylor's Strategy just sold 3,588 BTC and I think people are watching the wrong number
everyone's on the $216M but the number that actually matters is that they sold at all, and that holdings are now below 844,000 BTC
Strategy's whole thesis, the thing that lets the stock trade at a premium to the bitcoin it holds, is "we are a permanent buyer and we never sell." that's the pitch so a sale isn't really about the dollars but the first visible footnote on the word "never."
maybe it's routine treasury management and it means nothing operationally. doesn't matter. the market now knows the door opens in both directions.
the part that goes wider than MSTR is a lot of people hold MSTR as leveraged bitcoin but it isn't. i t's leveraged bitcoin wrapped in a company with its own financing needs, its own reasons to sell, and a premium that can compress on its own even when BTC is flat. you can be dead right on bitcoin and still get run over by the wrapper.
that's the same trap as trading a miner or a proxy when what you actually wanted was the underlying. the wrapper has its own life. if clean directional exposure was the goal, a vehicle that can sell out from under you for reasons unrelated to your thesis is a strange way to get it.
not a MSTR bear take. more like a know what you're actually holding kind
has anyone here ran MSTR as a BTC substitute on purpose, or do you keep the two separate
