What are classic movies/tv series that everyone must know?

I'm an Asia-born American, and even though i did grow up watching american movies it was only like rly rly popular ones like jumanji, fast & furious. So i want the classics, the starter pack that all americans must know and watch, something like 500 days of summer, perks of being a wallflower, criminal minds, gilmore girls, clueless etc.

I'm a teenager, and open to any genre except gore, a bit hestitant on psychological thriller or horror js bc im too scared to watch alone, so anything that won't scare me even in daylight, and no jumpscares would be fine.
If you ever think there's no way she hasn't watched that, there's a high chance i haven't so please list it anyways.
