Advice for Pivot to Energy Field
Hi,
I'm trying to research how to make a slight career pivot and am looking for advice. I currently work in air quality compliance for a state regulatory agency (2 YOE) and have an undergrad degree in biology. I enforce local, state, and federal regs for a variety of sources, but some of my work with engines and boilers involves an understanding of demand response, regional transmissions orgs, and basic grid ops. I find myself enjoying that aspect and am exploring what areas of the energy field I could pivot toward. Given my small piece of experience in permitting/compliance, I'm exploring what careers in project development/planning are like. Would this be a viable pivot and, if so, does anybody have any advice?
I also have quite a few friends who work in policy (across a variety of industries), and enjoy learning about their work and feel that I would excel there. Is energy or decarbonization policy experience valuable in the industry or is it just too broad a field to say for sure?
