UV printed acrylic ornaments cut on Shapeoko Pro with PixelCNC

Text is printed on the front and the map is printed on the back to give some 3D depth to the ornament.

Another angle to show how the text is on the front and the background is on the backside of the acrylic.

Heart and circle ornament blanks cut out.

1/8\" thick acrylic sheet ornaments were cut from.

2mm O-flute endmill used.

Close-up of the recessed cut on the ribbon bow loop.

Heart vectors in PixelCNC path editor.

Three ops: small pockets cut out for the loop to be thinner, then a rough profiling pass that cuts most of the way down, then a cutout profiling pass that cuts in two passes shaving down the sides while leaving tabs to hold the parts in place.

Drew the vectors on a path layer in PixelCNC and used 2d profile milling to cut out the acrylic using 2mm O-flute cutter. Way less headache than using a 2-flute carbide cutter! Went pretty smooth.

The UV printer has been a bit testy but we put new inks in and it seems to be working better now. After cleaning up an ornament a bit by hitting it with some 180 grit sandpaper I cleaned it and printed the text on the front first. Then flipped it over and printed the mirrored image of the map with colors first and then white background second, so that it would show through the front side.

Now we just need to get the processing time down with the UV printing side of things.
