Does anyone else like working over their range toys? 1911 in 45 AARP vs 92FS clone in 9mm. Both with Gideon Optics "SRO we have at home" and comps. Both are modified to have nice range triggers and smooth actions.

This Girsan Influencer 1911 was the second pistol I modified. It was pretty rough with a lot of extra finish that kept it from running smoothly. Although advertised as having a 4 lb trigger pull it was actually 8.5 lbs. I smoothed everything down that was rubbing with sandpaper. Then I replaced the ignition parts from Nighthawk and the trigger now breaks at 2.5 lbs with a crisp break.

The Derya Melik 92 FS clone is surprisingly good out of the box. I haven't modified any of my DA/SA pistols as they're much more complicated, so buying a clone to play with made sense. It's a 1:1 of the Beretta 92 FS but several of the parts that are plastic on the Beretta are steel on this pistol. The safety/de-cocker is a different design but can be replaced with a standard Beretta part. I selected a low profile, non-ambi safety from Wilson Combat. I replaced all of the springs with a kit from Mcarbo. I smoothed and profiled the trigger bar, hammer and sear as well. This pistol now breaks at a crisp 3 lbs on single action and 8 lbs on double action. Some Lok grips are in the mail. The optic was mounted with a dovetail mount from EGW that seems to be working well but I'd not trust it for carry/duty.

What would you change?
