Modelling glass

I modelled a clock pressure gauge for a project for clearance and as usual I got carried away and put far too much detail in just because! It has an adjustable red hand for setting the max pressure which is normally mounted in the glass. I couldn't find a way to make glass. Transparent makes the whole gauge transparent and there is no glass material. I wanted to keep the hand attached to the model so I ended up just attaching it with a very fine pivot.

Any suggestions on a good way to accomplish this or is what I have done as good as it is going to get?
