One shot kill from other tanks

I was playing last night and was regularly being 1 shot in a tank by another tank using the 120mm HE rounds (definitely no one else involved - we were basically in our spawn). Is this a known thing? Or a bug? When I was ADS in my tank it appeared as though he was launching multiple projectiles at the same time.
