Facts
- Second longest-running prime-time program on American television.
- Has won multiple Primetime Emmy Awards including Outstanding Children's Program, Drama Series, Title Design and Variety Series.
- This show was originally made to finance the development of the Disneyland amusement park. The original show had a lot of promotion for it.
- During the Walt Disney Presents (1958–1961) iteration, The Peter Tchaikovsky Story (an episode made to promote Disney's latest animated feature, Sleeping Beauty) was one of the first stereo simulcasts on television; in this case it was three channel stereo.
- Ludwig Von Drake was the first Disney character created specifically for television. He was created specifically to explain the new colour features on this show when it moved to NBC.
- The program spawned the Davy Crockett craze of 1955, with the airing of a three-episode series (not shown over the course of consecutive weeks) about the historical American frontiersman, starring Fess Parker in the title role. Millions of dollars of merchandise relating to the title character were sold, and the theme song, "The Ballad of Davy Crockett", became a hit record that year.
- Walt Disney died on 15th Dec 1966, 12 years after the anthology series premiered. While the broadcast that aired three days after his death featured a memorial tribute from The Huntley–Brinkley Report anchor Chet Huntley with film and television star Dick Van Dyke, the introductions that Disney had already filmed before his death continued to air for the remainder of the season. After that, the studio decided that Disney's persona as host was such a key part of the show's appeal to viewers that the host segment was removed. The final episode featuring Disney's host segment was the episode "A Salute to Alaska".
This is a cut down version of what I found interesting during my own research. See this wikipedia page and related links to find out more. Oh there is a LOT about this because of how long it has run and the history of it is pretty interesting so I recommend check this out :3
I am gonna watch the archived and edited first episode of this tv show. Later stuff I have probably seen the like of before and the first episode had a bunch of behind the scenes stuff which I wanna check out. The version I'm watching is only 30mins long coz it edits out all of the animated segments as they are just reshows anyways so I don't need to see them.
