Permanent Filters in Florida

We live in a 1600 square foot condo in central FLorida. We also have a dog and a cat who are house pets. My HVAC intake is located on a wall at floor level. Consequently the filter gets a fur build up at the bottom of the filter. Since moving to Florida I've been using replaceable filters and replace the filter monthly. Any opinions on using a permanent reusable filter in this application like the K&N?
