Can I play birth by sleep before days?

I've played kh1, recom, and kh2 on the ps4 collection but I plan on buying a 3ds later this year and playing days since I don't want to just watch the cutscenes. Is it fine for me to play bbs and maybe recoded in the meantime or should I put the series on hold for now to enjoy the story to it's fullest?
