Bose Soundlink Max Fully Drained
I managed to brick the battery in a unit that is only a few months old. I have a theory.
I use the speakers only for aux listening. I have a respectible fiio m21, and I can hear that the dac is superior to the internal dac, not to mention BT compression. So I only use BT for the Bose app, or a dire forgotten front end emergency. I accept that I must disconnent the aux, connect the Bose app, make whatever config changes or readings, then reconnect aux in.
This is not optimal, but is worth the inconvenience, because this speaker is hands down the best soundstage for under $1000. It can be beaten there, but throw in portability and the win is harder to justify.
So what happened? I think me leaving the aux cable connected with the unit powered down with no usb connected caused the bt transmitter to remain running until the battery dropped to below low threshold.
BTW, the solution to allowing charging to proceed is quit obtuse. You need a sweep second hand, eyeball ready, keeping both hands free. Disconnect usb first. With your right hand hold down power and volume up, simultaneously. Don"t slip, and hold for 15 seconds, then continue holding, while with your left hand, connect the usb cable. Now you may let go of the buttons. It is harder than it sounds. If, for even a fraction of a second, you slip from either button, start over.
If the unit makes a whooshing sound and the power button slowly blinks, you are charging. You will need at least an hour.
