How do you coordinate string floss?

I’ve been using floss picks since I started flossing regularly because that’s all we had and it was very easy to get the hang of, but eventually got my hands on some string floss after reading it was more effective. Except my fingers for the life of me don’t understand the assignment. My hands do the opposite of what I tell them to, they keep swapping roles, and it honestly just feels like they’re disconnected from my brain, first I’m flossing with my index finger then randomly my entire hand is wrapped in floss. I can get the C shape on my front teeth and then as soon as I move to the sides that’s when my hands go haywire. Is this a skill that you learn with time? How do you actually get good at it?
